Hundreds of people called themselves through social networks and took for two hours the central Alameda avenue, in Santiago, in front of the Palacio de La Moneda, headquarters of the Chilean Executive.
The militarized Carabineros police fired gases and jets of water at the protesters.
“You cannot let go of the street, it is where the people make themselves heard. That is why they are so afraid of us and repress us as they are doing. (We will continue) until it’s over and everything changes, ”said one protester. |
In the same style in Peru, the protesters protested in Santiago to demand the resignation of President Sebastián Piñera for the repression of the police during the more than a year of social unrest in the country, which left about thirty dead.
The mobilization takes place after three weeks in which, by an overwhelming majority, Chileans voted in favor of reforming the Constitution bequeathed by the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship (1973), considered the origin of social inequality.
The crowd was dispersed by the police who used tear gas and chemical water that affected thousands of people who passed through the area. (AFP)
